The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Gaston Roberge can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Christiane Roberge
Dad, you weren't the type to say I love you to family, and you were uncomfortable when I told you. You weren't the type to brag either so I am going to do it for you. From saving every home on the train track side of Kidd Ave. to giving out extra to the little old lady who had to take in laundry so she could keep her house you were a hero in many ways to many people. It was you who stopped that train from derailing off its tracks by running as fast as you could in the middle of the night to jam the switch and stopping the train from falling on all the houses. It was you who always gave that little old lady more pieces of fish and chips when she came in on Friday. It was you who saved that man from drowning when we had our trailer at Consecon. The railroad thanked you and sent you a letter with $100 in it and then the Town of Trenton thanked you by widening the overpass and just about made you go bankrupt in the process. The true story never did go in the Trentonian. It was you who just did the right thing because it was the right thing to do. You joined the RCAF at 15 years old and always tried to do the right thing. It was you who drove almost 100 miles out of your way because in 1964 riots in the south. You had borrowed a tire gauge from a young negro boy and had forgotten to return it to him and drove all the way back so he wouldn't be fired. These are the kind of examples you set for me and I will always live my life accordingly. You taught me to shoot, hunt, fish, drive, and help fix the car by teaching my all the names of the tools. It was you who told me to sit down as it was about time I learned how engines worked. When we needed help with building a house up north, you were there to hammer the nails along with us. You weren't perfect and I am not perfect, but you did your best to set the right examples in life and it has served me well. Neither of us believed in organized Religion but I know that where ever you are, you are still one of the smartest men I ever met. You taught me to play bridge, and we had some great Trivial Pursuit battles. You gave me the gift of critical thinking and always helping the underdog no matter how many people were against them. This year you won't be able to fly the Canadian Flag on July 1st so I will do it for you. Rest in Peace where ever you are because there is still one more flight we'll be taking together. Love. Christiane
