The thoughtfulness and generosity of this man are remarkable as many will attest to I am sure. My examples of these two qualities is as follows About 14 years ago we moved into our little town of Newcastle from the big city of Toronto . My wife and I had always said if we moved to a small town we would like to get involved. The first day in town we heard there was live music at the town hall. Perfect. We went and to our pleasant surprise it was traditional country by none other than Johnny Burke. We knew of him but had never met him. At half time we went down and introduced ourselves and were warmly welcomed( we didn't know he lived here in town. ). He went back for his second set and started singing and half way through a song he stopped and asked Tish and I to stand up and introduced us to the whole town of Newcastle. Second example of his generosity . We got to be good friends with his wife Teresa and himself and about 11 years later had the honour of having them stay with us in Florida for a week or so. Well ,we had a friend down there that had severe Alzheimer's but loved country and western music and particularly a specific song called " crystal Chandeliers" . I thought he would enjoy hearing it sang by a real country artist and asked johnny if I invited my friend over to the trailer would he sing him this song. Johnny hadn't brought a guitar down to Florida with him as it wasn't a trip to entertain. He said to me can you borrow me a guitar and I would be glad to. Well,I did borrow him a guitar and I did invite my friend and his wife over to the house and Johnny not only sang my friends favourite song but entertained all of us for two hours. My friend,although not really cognizant of all going on around him did know the song and the smile on his face all evening and his han djestures that signified happiness are a visual memory I will never forget. Thankyou Johnny . Harold( my friend) is up there with you and I hope you get to sing for him again.
